Door Jammer on BBC Two Dragons' Den1 January 2017
DoorJammer’s appeared on BBC Two ‘s Dragons’ Den on New Year’s Day. Our senior Directors, Roger Willems and Phil Stratford, pitched for £80,000 for a 15% share of the DoorJammer company.
Roger Willems said, “Although the Dragons didn’t invest they treated us with respect. Even momentarily I became a Dragon myself when invited by Peter Jones to sit in his chair – I declared myself ‘out’ when Peter made a reverse pitch. However, we were disappointed that no Dragon came on board, we know we have a viable product.
We are definitely passionate about DoorJammer and have invested a significant amount of time, money and resources into this project. As I explained on the programme, we believe that DoorJammer adds another level of security for travellers and in the home”.
Roger is quite candid about what they have learnt since appearing in the Den. “The TV studio and programme editing, makes it difficult to tell the full story of how well DoorJammer functions in normal circumstances. It took 10 secs for Nick Jenkins to breach the door. Even though this was a demo set up in a TV studio - 10 seconds could be a life saver. We should have explained that the demonstration door doesn’t behave as in normal circumstances, where there is supported door frame. DoorJammer is UK Police accredited via ACPO Secured by Design and has gone through rigorous tests on complete Door frames. This included a direct impact test up to 60kg of force.
We believe ‘Silent Entry’ into a hotel room is a more common issue especially when travelling alone, and also people do wish to feel safer at home. You only have to look at the comments we are currently receiving on our Facebook page.
The Den is a quick environment where it’s not always possible to provide the perfect answers (and there is some editing!). The Dragons have to make quick decisions about the viability of products and we appreciate that. We are confident when used on normal doors that DoorJammer is not only a great security, but through our existing b2b channels it has viable future. I would recommend to anyone that is going to pitch in Dragons Den is to stay positive and know your numbers - they are very sharp!”.
